Applying for the NPTE:

Steps for applying for the exam: (This information is taken from www.fsbpt.org and is accurate as of March 2008).

1. Obtain registration materials from the licensing authority of the jurisdiction in which you are seeking licensure. Most jurisdictions allow online registration. You may not register to take the examination through more than one jurisdiction at the same time.

2. Return completed registration materials, along with payment, to the appropriate organization as identified on the instructions you received from the licensing authority. The fee for the National Physical Therapy Examination for PTs is $350.

3. The jurisdiction licensing authority will approve your eligibility and notify FSBPT.  FSBPT will send you an "Authorization to Test" letter containing instructions on how to schedule an appointment with Prometric

4. Schedule an appointment for the examination with Prometric. You need to provide the following: Name of the examination (Physical Therapist, Jurisprudence/Law Exam); Where and when you would like to test, Your Name, Social Security Number or Alternate Identification Number , Daytime telephone number, Type of payment: credit card or direct debit. The Prometric fee for the National Physical Therapy Examination for PTs is $65.

5. Sit for the examination at your chosen Prometric testing site. You must sit for the examination within your 60-day eligibility period as indicated on the "Authorization-to-Test" letter provided by FSBPT. You are not required to sit for the examination within the jurisdiction in which you are seeking licensure.
